The birth of polyester...
Inspired by the research of Wallace Carother, the inventor of Neoprene (1930) and Nylon® (1935) on behalf of DuPont, two British chemists, John Rex Winfield and James Tennant Dickinson, were the first people to take an interest in the polyesters formed by glycolic ethylene and teraphthalic acid.
After several years of research and studies, they invented and patented PET (polyethylene teraphthalate). The Polyester will then revolutionise the modern society and inject new dynamism into the chemical industry.
In 1950, DuPont launched the production of Dacron®, the first washable synthetic textile fibre.
In the field of duvets and pillows, polyester is now the most widely used fibrefill thanks to its anallergic properties and its great ease of care. It is also due to the diverse technology created and perfected in order to develop the Dacron® Comfort Fibre range .
